Ray Richard, 53, of Merrifield, died on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Deerwood, Minn. Ray was born Nov. 11, 1959, in Winnepig, Canada, the son of Irving and Patricia (Quinn) Richard. He was raised in Eau Claire, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1989. In 1988, he was united in marriage to Laura Walton in Mendota Heights, Minn. The couple made their home in the Minneapolis area until 1999 when they moved to the Brainerd lakes area. They owned and operated Burger King in Brainerd. For the past 14 months, he’s been in Grand Rapids managing their sister restaurant. Ray was a past Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce board member and a member of the Mid-American Franchisee Association. He enjoyed golf, baseball and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Kara, of St. Paul, Kalley, of Merrifield, and Paul, of Merrifield; sisters, Joyce Bartles, of Coon Rapids and Judy (Jim) Plucker, of Welch, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father, Irving.
